This is a big news for all SBI account holders. SBI, India's largest public sector bank, has issued a warning to its users about something that they must never do or else they may lose their hard-earned money. State Bank of India has warned that account holders must beware of fraudulent messages that are being sent by cyber criminals to collect sensitive information about bank account holders. The state-run bank has alerted its customers to be vigilant and not fall in the trap. SBI has tweeted on its official Twitter handle @TheOfficialSBI for the same. This is what it said.

“We have come across some media reports that cyber criminals are sending fraudulent messages to our customers in the name of SBI to lure them to collect reward points by clicking on a fake link and are thus fraudulently collecting customer’s sensitive information,” the SBI tweet said.

“We advise all our customers not to share sensitive information such as Card/Pin/OTP/CVV/password with anyone. Please do not click on link received through any email/sms or open attachments/emails from unknown senders. We reiterate that SBI never asks for your sensitive details over phone, sms or email,” the SBI tweet further said.

The SBI has been alerting its customers from time-to-time about such messages, frauds or online attacks. It had recently alerted its customers about phishing attacks. Phishing is a fraudulent attempt, usually made through email, phone calls, SMS, etc seeking your personal and confidential information.

State Bank or any of its representatives never sends you email/SMS or calls you over the phone to get your personal information, password or one time SMS (high security) password, it had said.

SBI: How to stop phishing attack - Useful tips

1. Ensure that the URL in your browser address bar begins with "https".

2. The address or status bar displays the padlock symbol. Click the padlock to view and verify the security certificate.

3. The address bar turns green indicating that the site is secured with an SSL Certificate that meets the Extended Validation Standard.

(SSL is compatible for IE 7.0 and above, Mozilla Firefox 3.1 and above, Opera 9.5 and above, Safari 3.5 and above, Google Chrome).
