Car sales rise by 15% in post-GST month of July: SIAM
Car sales rose by 15% on good growth in the UV segment as price cuts due to implementation of GST fuelled growth.

Car sales in July grew by a good 15% powered by a huge growth in utility vehicles (UV) during the month, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Total passenger vehicles sales registered a 15.12% growth in July as domestic sales rose to 2,98,997 units from 2,59,720 units in the same month last year.
UV sales saw a major growth during the month as it registered a 35.52% growth as it sold 86,874 units during July 2017 in comparison to 64,105 units in the corresponding month last year.
Domestic passenger cars sales grew by 8.52% as it sold 1,92,773 units in comparison to 1,77,639 units in the same month last year.

Vans registered a growth of 7.64% in July as sales rose to 19,350 units from 17,976 units in the same month last year.
Commercial vehicles (CV) sales too saw a recovery in growth as it posted a 13.73% growth during July. It was led by a good growth in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) segment which posted an 18.74% growth as sales rose to 36,270 units in July from 30,546 units in the same month last year.
The medium and heavy commercial vehicle (MHCV) segment posted a 6.68% growth in July as sales rose to 22,730 units from 21,307 units in the same month last year.
Three-wheeler sales however posted a decline of 11.07% as sales fell to 41,261 units in July in comparison to Rs 46,397 units in the same month last year.
Two-wheeler sales posted a good 13.73% growth as sales of scooters and motorcycles drove it ahead.
Sales of scooters grew by 13%, while sales of motorcycles increased by 16.9% during the month of July.
