HPCL launches new light-weight LPG cylinders for consumers - All you need to know

State-run Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is all set to launch a new, colorful and easy-to-use LPG gas cylinder across the country in a few months. The new fiber-made composite cylinders are lighter and easier to handle in comparison to the existing steel cylinders, and they would also be equipped with better safety measures.

The new LPG gas cylinders, which will soon make their way into our kitchen, will be available in different capacities of 2 kg, 5 kg and 10 kg of cooking gas. The cylinders would be also lighter than the metallic cylinders, which currently carry a net 14.2 kg of gas.

HPCL has tweeted that the "OJAS Range" by the company are "light-weight, composite cylinders" for consumers' cooking needs, adding "These are easy-to-use and a more convenient alternative to the regular metal cylinders."

In a Facebook post, HPCL stated it has introduced the "OJAS" composite cylinders for LPG, adding, "These modern cylinders come with an improved design and are completely safe to use."

According to available information, consumers will get the new cylinders, after returning old cylinders along with paying extra cost, estimated to be around Rs 1,000.

Notably, the oil marketing company has started delivery of the new cylinders through a pilot project in Pune and Ahmedabad, but now it will be distributed across the country.

The cylinders are stated to be corrosion proof, UV protected and translucent in nature so that customers will be able to see the amount of LPG in the bottle. Increased safety features of the new cylinders will also ensure lesser number of mishaps.

The fibre-made bottles would also weigh half the existing cylinders are likely to come with double the cost of the steel cylinders currently in use.

According to reports, the proposed cylinder is a part of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) initiative, under which the government wants to improve quality of service to LPG consumers.

Under the Ujjwala Yojana, the Centre aims to provide gas connections to 10 crore households who have been dependent on firewood, coal, dung-cakes etc. So far, the government has distributed 6 crore free cooking gas (LPG) connection under the Ujjwala Yojana.
