PNB crackdown on cyber crime: Bank asks customers to use official website for banking services

PNB advisory reads that cyber criminals pose their numbers as bank branch, customer care support number, which emerges in google search, so use the official site only.

PNB or Punjab National Bank has urged its customers to avoid Google search for banking services and use its official website www.pnbindia.in to avoid any kind of cyber crime taking place against them. PNB tweeted the advisory from its official Twitter handle on April 26. The tweet warned its customers that miscreants are posing themselves as bakes with fake numbers that emerge as PNB branch number. So, to avoid getting into the trap of cyber criminals, PNB advised its customers to get any branch details or contact information from its official website rather doing the Google search, which is not authenticated.

The PNB advisory being tweeted against the fraudsters read, "Off late, instances are noticed where the miscreants are fraudently changing the Bank's Branch/ATM/Customer Care/Support Number etc on Google Map/ unregulated website. To avoid landing on such information, please do not search online for Punjab National Bank Branch/ATM/Customer Support numbers from Google, Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook sites. Instead type http://www.pnbindia.in/ on a secured browser to get the contact details. Further never repond to unverified phone/mobile calls, claiming to be from the Bank/Card/Bank's Branch or Support Team."

So, the PNB move is to ensure the safety of its customer's money being looted by the fraudsters who use malware software to fish out banking related details of the customer and later on shun away with their hard earned money through card cloning, vishing etc.
