Reliance Jio captures largest chunk of broadband market in December
Success story of new entrant Reliance Jio continued on Friday as Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) released subscription data in December where they had captured a third of the broadband market in India.
“As on 31st December, 2016, the top five Wireless Broadband Service providers were Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (72.16 million), Bharti Airtel (41.53 million), Vodafone (35.01 million), Idea Cellular (27.04 million) and Reliance Communications (16.08 million),” TRAI said.
Market share in broadband services RJio topped the charts taking the largest chunk of market share at 30.56%.
Next in line was Airtel followed by Vodafone at 18.45% and 14.83% respectively.

The data revealed that RJio’s net addition to its wireless subscription base was 20,281,930 people.
Idea Cellular came in second with net additions amounting to 2,839,426 and Bharti Airtel third with 2,502,355 new users in the month.

TRAI recorded the growth rate of the telecoms wireless subscriber base with RJio taking the lead with 39.1% followed by Quadrant and Idea with 3.09% and 1.51% respectively.

On Wednesday, Reliance Industries Ltd Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani said that RJio had crossed 100 million (10 crore) customer base.
In the wireless subscription market, RJio had 6.4% share while telecom biggie Airtel was still in the lead with 23.58%.
Vodafone and Idea followed next with 18.16% and 16.90% share respectively.
RJio recently introduced a new offer which provided its customers 1GB of 4G internet data and all other free services like unlimited voice calling, SMS, and access to premium apps at the cost of Rs 100 till the month of June.
On entering the market in September, RJio had provided free data upto 4GB limit per day which was then extended to March 2017 with the data up being capped at 1GB per day.
