Nearly a month after the alleged 12,700-core Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, involving billionaire jewellery merchant Nirav Modi came to light, a case has been registered against a manager of the State Bank of India for allegedly accepting and sending fake currency notes to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) last year, police said today.

Acting on a complaint by Satey Kumar, manager of RBI's Kanpur branch, the FIR was registered against the accused of sending fake Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes to the central bank.
We are probing the matter, they added.  Earlier, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which initiated the probe in the PNB scam, raided Nirav Modi`s Kamala Mills firm and seized some documents.

The CBI investigators also called and questioned two General Managers and Deputy General Managers of the Mumbai-based PNB`s Brady House branch. Some PNB employees and a few employees of Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi were questioned.
CBI investigators were taking help of computer and banking experts in the case and also focusing on the alleged criminality of auditors.

Central agencies had conducted multiple raids at the residential and office premises and showrooms of Nirav Modi and the Gitanjali group ever since the CBI filed two FIRs on February 14-15.
Meanwhile, the government had revoked passports of Nirav Modi and Mehul Choksi.
