Yashobhoomi Inauguration: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first phase of the international convention and expo centre 'Yashobhoomi' in Dwarka, New Delhi, at 11 am on Sunday, September 17. Developed at a cost of about Rs 5,400 crore and spread over a project area of more than 8.9 lakh square metres, the Yashobhoomi convention centre houses 15 convention rooms, a grand ballroom and 13 meeting rooms, with a total seating capacity of more than 11,000 delegates, according to an official statement. The government plans to connect the mega convention centre to the Delhi Airport Metro Express line of Delhi Metro.

The Prime Minister will also inaugurate an extended portion of the Delhi Airport Metro Express line from Dwarka Sector 21 to a new metro station, Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25. Passenger operations on the extended portion started from 3 pm on Sunday itself.

The government’s Yashobhoomi project boasts of a “magnificent convention centre” equipped with the largest LED media façade in the country and with state-of-the-art seating facilities, aimed at ensuring world-class experience to visitors.
The operationalisation of the ‘Yashobhoomi’ convention centre will strengthen the Prime Minister’s vision of having a world class infrastructure for hosting meetings, conferences and exhibitions in the country, the statement added.
Here are some key points to know about the upcoming launch of the Yashobhoomi convention centre and the extended Delhi Airport Metro Express city rail service:
- The ‘Yashobhoomi’ convention centre has a total built up area of more than 1.8 lakh square metres
- The convention centre is set to find its place among the world’s largest meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) facilities
- It is built across more than 73 thousand square metres of area
- The convention centre comprises 15 convention rooms including the main auditorium and the grand ballroom
- Its plenary hall is equipped with a seating capacity of around 6,000 guests
- The grand ballroom can host around 2,500 guests, with an extended open area capable of seating up to 500 people
- The convention centre houses one of the largest exhibition halls in the world
- The exhibition halls are built across over 1.07 lakh square metres of area suitable for hosting exhibitions, trade fairs and business events
- The ‘convention centre is equipped with a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment system boasting 100 per cent wastewater reuse and provisions of rainwater harvesting
- The complex has an underground car parking facility with a capacity of more than 3,000 cars and more than 100 electric charging points
- Delhi Metro will increase the operational speed of trains on the Airport Express Line from 90 to 120 km/hour, completing journeys from New Delhi to Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 in about 21 minutes
