Air India to run 36 flights between India, US under the Vande Bharat Mission

The airline in a statement said that passengers can start booking tickets effective 20:00 hours (IST) on 6 July, equivalent to New York (EDT 1030 hrs of 6' July 2020), Chicago (CDT 0930 hrs of 6 July 2020) & San Francisco (PDT 0730 hrs of 6 July 2020).
Under the fourth phase of the mission, Air India will be conducting 170 flights connecting India with Canada, the US, the UK, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Thailand, South Africa, Russia, Australia, Myanmar, Japan, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
However, the Trump administration had earlier imposed restrictions on Air India’s ‘Vande Bharat’ repatriation flights that are carrying Indians from the United States in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The US Department of Transportation had announced that it had barred Air India from operating chartered flights between India and the United States without its prior approval.

The domestic flights in India started operating from May 25, 2020, after a gap of about two months. But, international travel remains suspended for now. Last week, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had announced that International air travel to and from India will remain suspended till July 31.
“In partial modification of circular dated 26-06-2020, the competent authority has extended the validity of circular issued regarding Scheduled International commercial passenger services to & from India till 2359 hrs IST of 31st July 2020. This restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA,” the DGCA circular stated.
The statement came a week after DGCA had announced that international air travel will remain suspended till July 15. The circular also mentions that 'International Scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on case to case basis.'
