MP Bus Accident: 15 dead, 35 hurt after bus collides with a stationary truck in Rewa; PM announces ex-gratia

Madhya Pradesh bus accident news: A passenger bus collided with a stationary truck in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh on Friday night amid which 15 people lost their lives and around 35 were injured, an official said on Saturday.
The accident took place on October 21, 2022, at around 11:30 pm in the night, he added.

"The bus was on its way to Gorakhpur from Hyderabad when it collided with a stationary trailer truck on national highway (NH) 30 near Sohagi ghati area," Rewa collector Manoj Pushp said.
"Fourteen persons were killed in the accident, which left more than 35 others injured," he said while speaking to PTI. However, another news agency ANI reported the toll has increased to 15.
The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh to each deceased in the tragic accident. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased in the tragic bus accident in Madhya Pradesh. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," PMO India tweeted.

On being alerted about the incident, police personnel from Sogahi rushed to the site and launched a rescue operation. The majority of the bus passengers were labourers and they were on their way home for the Diwali festival, eyewitnesses said.
The injured were rushed to a hospital in Teonthar town, he said.
"Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief over the Rewa bus-trolley truck collision. He spoke to Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath on phone this morning & apprised him of the incident. Mortal remains of passengers will be brought to Prayagraj by the MP govt: MP CMO," as per ANI report.
