As new Covid-19 infection rate dips, Haryana mulls to reopen schools from 9th to 12th standard

With strict Covid-19 guidelines, the Haryana government is likely to reopen the schools from June 1 for students of secondary and higher secondary classes amid the decline in the coronavirus cases in the state.

With strict Covid-19 guidelines, the Haryana government is likely to reopen the schools from June 1 for students of secondary and higher secondary classes amid the decline in the coronavirus cases in the state.  

As per media reports, the schools may resume for students of Classes 9 to 12 after the end of their summer vacations, with stringent Covid-19 related guidelines.  

The state government has sent instructions to the Directorate of Education to reopen the schools, as per a Jagran report. The report further added that they have been directed to send details of the students' infrastructure including the number of benches in the school.

Following the most important norm to curb Covid, only one student will be permitted to occupy one seat, the guidelines state. 

Strict implementation of COVID-19 norms such as wearing masks, social distancing, and regular hand sanitising will be ensured in schools, the report added.  

On Wednesday (May 26), Haryana recorded 3,183 fresh COVID-19 cases, which took its tally to 7,47,740 while 106 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 7,841, state health bulletin said.  

The total active COVID-19 infections in the state stood at 31,644 while the cumulative positivity rate reached 8.51 per cent on Wednesday.  

Earlier, the Haryana government extended the lockdown by one week till 5:00 am on May 31 in view of the COVID-19 situation in the state. 

Haryana becomes the first state to re-open the school amid the second wave of Covid. India has been severely hit with the second wave of virus, lately, the case counts have been declining. On Wednesday country reported over 2 lakh cases and over 3500 deaths in the last 24 hours. 

The overall infection count has gone above 25 crores, while the deaths so far reported in the country have breached the 2.5 lakh mark.
