Paid- On street parking plan which is also being referred to as ‘Ward parking management’ plan will now be started on a pilot basis in four wards in Mumbai.
TRENDING NOW
Gradually, this plan will likely be implemented in all the 24 wards.
A two-wheeler or four-wheeler owner will now have to book a slot in advance to park his vehicle on the road. The owner will be required to pay a fee on monthly or annual basis.
It will be possible to pay the parking fee in a digital mode.
After booking a slot, the car or two-wheeler owner will be allotted a dedicated parking space and a sticker will be given for that vehicle.
The BMC will keep a close watch on the parking area through CCTVs to ensure proper implementation of the Ward Parking Management Plan
The project will be implemented in urban areas by The Mumbai Parking Authority and it will be headed by IAS Dr Ramnath Jha.
The move is being considered in the wake of growing number of vehicles in the city which is creating parking problems for the vehicle owners. This is also to discourage private ownership of multiple vehicles.
To implement paid-parking, BMC constituted a 15-member committee which comprised of urban planners, environment experts, and representatives from TISS or Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
The project is likely to get implemented after the monsoon gets over.
