Cyclone Nisarga impact: Only 19 flights to operate from Mumbai airport, trains rescheduled

With Cyclone Nisarga set to make landfall in Maharashtra today afternoon, flight and train operations will be hit in the state capital, causing some trouble to passengers. Mumbai's international airport will only operate 19 flights on Wednesday (June 3) instead of 50 flights it operates daily while several trains have also been rescheduled. The 19 flights will be operated by five airlines, including Air Asia India, Air India, IndiGo, GoAir, and SpiceJet. Note that all domestic flights are operational from T2.

The airport operator said, "Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be operating 19 flights, which include 11 departures and 8 arrivals on Wednesday (June 3). The flights will be operated by five airlines including Air Asia India, Air India, IndiGo, GoAir and SpiceJet. There could be changes to the schedule and passengers are requested to check the schedule with their respective airline before leaving for the airport.”

Meanwhile, the Central Railways has informed that the timings of 02542 LTT-Gorakhpur, 06345 LTT-Thiruvananthapuram, 01061 LTT-Darbhanga, 01071 LTT-Varanasi, 01019 CSMT-Bhubaneshwar special trains which were earlier scheduled to leave Mumbai area during daytime were changed to night time.

Special trains from Patna, Varanasi, and Thiruvananthapuram, which were scheduled to reach Mumbai during the daytime were regulated and will now arrive in the city behind schedule.

Here is the full list of trains rescheduled –

• 02542 LTT-Gorakhpur special will leave at 20.00 hrs on 3.6.2020 instead of 11.10 hrs

• 06345 LTT-Thiruvananthapuram special will leave at 18.00 hrs on 3.6.2020 instead of 11.40 hrs

• 01061 LTT-Darbhanga special will leave at 20.30 hrs on 3.6.2020 instead of 12.15 hrs

• 01071 LTT-Varanasi special will leave at 21.00 hrs on 3.6.2020 instead of 12.40 hrs

• 01019 CSMT-Bhubaneshwar special will leave at 20.00 hrs instead of 15.05 hrs

• 03201 Patna-LTT special schedule to arrive at 11.30 hrs on 3.6.2020 to be regulated enroute and arrive behind schedule

• 01094 Varanasi-CSMT special schedule to arrive at 14.15 hrs on 3.6.2020 to be regulated enroute and arrive behind schedule

• 06436 Thiruvananthapuram-LTT special scheduled to arrive 16.40 hrs on 3.6.2020 will be diverted via Pune to arrive LTT behind schedule.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that Cyclone Nisarga is likely to make landfall at Alibaug, some 100 km south of Mumbai, today afternoon. The cyclone will also hit the Gujarat coast around at the same time. The state government has also stepped up evacuation efforts in vulnerable areas.

An alert has been issued for Mumbai city and suburbs, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts. Cyclone `Nisarga' is very likely to intensify into a "severe cyclonic storm" over the next 12 hours and cross Maharashtra and South Gujarat coast on Wednesday afternoon, IMD said on Tuesday.
