GATE 2020 applicant? BEWARE! IIT-Delhi cautions students

GATE 2020: The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi), which is conducting the Graduate Aptitude Test Engineering (GATE 2020), has cautioned the candidates against fake emails being circulated by some fraudulent groups. Notably, many social media posts are in circulation claiming specially designed test series for GATE aspirants. Issuing a notification, IIT-Delhi said, “GATE 2020 authority is not involved with any specially designed test series for GATE aspirants. Please do not believe in the phishing/ fake emails which are being circulated to the GATE aspirants by some fraudulent groups. Please note that all the relevant information about the GATE 2020 is available only at this official website.”

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi will conduct the GATE on February 1, 2 and 8 and 9. The admit cards will be released on January 3, 2019 which the candidates will able to download through the website- gate.iitd.ac.in.

The GATE 2020 will be conducted in 24 subjects including Aerospace Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Architecture and Planning, Biotechnology, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering among other subjects.

The GATE 2020 will be a computer-based multiple-choice question or MCQ-based exam, under which, candidates need to answer 65 questions for a total of 100 marks within three-hours’ time. The paper will contain questions on general aptitude (15 marks), engineering mathematics (10-13 marks) and core engineering area.

According to the norms, a candidate is allowed to take only one paper in any one session. A new subject of biomedical engineering has been added to the list of 24 papers in this year.

Notably, the GATE is an examination conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

Qualifying in GATE is a mandatory requirement for seeking admission and/or financial assistance to: (i) Master’s programs and direct Doctoral programs in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and (ii) Doctoral programs in relevant branches of Science, in the institutions supported by the MHRD and other government agencies. Even in some colleges and institutions, which admit students without MHRD scholarship/assistantship, the GATE qualification is mandatory. Further, many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) have been using the GATE score in their recruitment process.
