Govt extends deadline for filing I-T returns to August 5
The Government of India has extended the deadline for filing the income tax returns (ITRs) for people across India to August 5, 2016.
Earlier the government had set July 31 as the deadline for filing the income tax returns (ITRs).
Revenue Secretary from the Ministry of Finance Dr Hasmukh Adhia tweeted on Friday saying, " In view of today's bank strike and disturbance in Jammu and Kashmir (J & K), due date of IT return filing is being extended."

"For assessees across India, liable to file IT returns by 31st July, deadline is extended up to 5th August," Adhia tweeted.

However, the deadline to file ITRs for assesses residing in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has been extended to August 31.
