Holiday in schools, colleges in 91 constituencies today due to Lok Sabha elections 2019; read full list of cities enjoying benefit
Lok Sabha elections 2019: The first phase of voting for the 2019 general election started on April 11 as 91 constituencies went to polls. The voters in all these Lok Sabha constituencies will get a paid holiday to exercise their franchise.

The voters in all these Lok Sabha constituencies will get a paid holiday to exercise their franchise. State holiday has been declared in Uttarakhand, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh (AP), Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim as well as in the union territories of Andaman and Nocobar Islands and Lakshadweep Islands. All schools, colleges, and government offices would remain closed in these states. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the schools and offices are closed due to summer vacations for students. Polling is also being conducted in Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Chattisgarh and Odisha.
Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ranbir Singh in a notification on Wednesday said that voters residing in Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnaur, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautambudh Nagar and Bulandshahar will get the paid holiday on April 11. "Every person employed in any business, trade, industrial undertaking or any other establishment in the National Capital Territory of Delhi and entitled to vote and residing in Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnaur, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Gautambudh Nagar and Bulandshahar shall be granted a holiday on the day of polling on April 11, so that he/she can cast vote during elections," it said.
It also said no deduction or abatement of the wages shall be made on account of this holiday. "If any person is employed on the basis that he/she would not ordinarily receive wages for such a day, he/she nonetheless will be paid as wages he/she would have drawn had not a holiday been granted to him/her on that day," it said.

In Chhattisgarh constituencies of Sarguja, Raigarh, Janjgir, Korba, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Durg, Raipur, Mahasamund, Bastar, Kanker would observe a holiday. Also, for Odisha, cities and towns of Bargarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Bhubhaneswar, Aska, Berhampur, Koraput would remain closed.
In West Bengal - Cooch Behar, Alipurduars, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, Raiganj, Balurghat, Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, Jangipur, Baharampur, Murshidabad, Krishnanagar, Rananghat, Bangaon, Barrackpur, Dum Dum, Barasat, Basirhat, Jaynagar, Mathurapur, Diamond harbour, Jadavpur,Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar, Howrah, Uluberia, Srerampur, Hooghly, Arambag, Tamluk, Kanthi, Ghatal, Jhargram, Medinipur, Purulia, Bankura, Bishnupur, Bardhaman purba, Bhardhaman-Durgapur, Asansol, Bolpur, Birbhum would have holiday.
