Indian Railways to introduce special coaches for high-speed trains, says Piyush Goyal
The proliferation of LHB coaches are one such modern technology on which the Modi Government is banking heavily to increase the speed of Indian trains.
Indian Railways News: In a bid to speed up Indian trains, the Ministry of Railways is taking various steps and investments. The proliferation of special coaches (Linke Hofmann Busch or LHB coaches) are one such modern technology on which the Modi Government is banking heavily to increase the speed of Indian trains. The Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal informed about the development in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on March 20, 2020.
In a written reply to a question in the Upper House, Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal said, "Speeding up of trains is a constant endeavour and continuous process on Indian Railways which is dependent on constant optimization of the investments made by Railways in the modernization of technology, high powered locos, modern coaches, signaling, electrification and better tracks."

He said that with this end in view, Indian Railways inter-alia have taken the following steps:
i) Proliferation of Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches, which have better speed. 531 pairs of trains are being operated with LHB coaches, at present.
ii) Sanction of works for raising of sectional speed to 160 kmph on existing New Delhi-Mumbai (including Vadodara-Ahmedabad) and New Delhi-Howrah (including Kanpur-Lucknow) routes costing Rs.6,806 Crore and Rs.6,685 Crore respectively.
iii) Identification of all Golden Quadrilateral and Diagonal routes, except New Delhi-Mumbai and New Delhi-Howrah, for raising of sectional speed to 130 kmph.
