Oxygen Cylinder in Delhi News Today: In a major relief to the common people, the Delhi High Court has taken a strict stance on the price of oxygen cylinders in the national capital. The Delhi HC has directed the Delhi government to determine the price of empty and filled cylinders so that everyone gets the oxygen cylinders at the same price and there are no discrepancies related to oxygen price.

The Delhi High Court has directed the Delhi government to fix the rates for the empty and filled oxygen cylinders as per a report by dnaindia.com. The court has also asked the Centre and Delhi government to do something 'without waiting for orders' to prevent black marketing and hoarding of medicines and medical equipment.

As there has been a continuous rise in the number of COVID-19 cases, the requirement for medical equipment for oxygen has also increased significantly and this has led to black marketing of these medical equipment. As per an ANI report, last week, on Thursday, two people were apprehended in Delhi including an ambulance driver and an emergency medical technician for their alleged involvement in the black marketing of oxygen cylinders.

Coming back to the directive issued by the Delhi High Court, a bench of Justices Vipin Sanghi and Rekha Palli was hearing a plea seeking the declaration of medicines and medical devices used in the treatment of COVID-19 as essential items under the Essential Commodities Act. After the order issued by the court, the Delhi government's counsel informed that all the stakeholders and the officials will sit down and make a decision on it. The court has also asked the government to file a status report on Friday.

The Delhi High Court has also asked the Delhi government to keep in mind the people belonging to the low income group while fixing the rates for the oxygen cylinders.

On Tuesday, according to the union health ministry, India has witnessed a slight dip in new COVID-19 cases with 3,29,942 fresh infections being reported in the last 24 hours. The country has also recorded more recoveries during this period of time as 3,56,082 new discharges were being reported.
