Tokyo Olympics 2020: Bajrang Punia wins BRONZE; India equals London Olympics tally of 6 MEDALS—PM Modi says 'Spectacularly fought'

With the help of wrestler Bajrang Punia's bronze, India has also equaled their best ever Olympic medal haul of six achieved in 2012 London edition. 

Soon after Punia defeated the Kazakhstan's wrestler, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate the Indian wrestler for ensuring 6th medal for the country. " Delightful news from #Tokyo2020! Spectacularly fought Bajrang Punia. Congratulations to you for your accomplishment, which makes every Indian proud and happy: PM Narendra Modi," news agency ANI quoted saying Prime Minister Modi.  

The medal-winning performance saved 27-year-old Bajrang and the Indian wrestling contingent from embarrassment since the wrestlers had entered Tokyo with high expectations.
After medal-favourite Vinesh Phogat's shock quarterfinal exit and Bajrang's below par show in the first three matches, a pall of gloom had descended on Indian wrestling contingent.
However, the three-time medallist at world championships rose to the occasion with a comfortable win.
With Bajrang's medal, Indian wrestlers have matched their best performance at the Olympic Games by earning two podium finishes. Ravi Dahiya had won an inspiring silver medal in the 57kg category.
At the 2012 London Games, Sushil Kumar had won a silver and Yogeshwar Dutt returned with a bronze.
