World Heritage Day 2022: World Heritage Day is commemorated to promote awareness and encourage people to take steps to protect cultural heritage. Every year on April 18, this day is celebrated. The subject of this year's World Heritage Day is "Heritage and Climate." 

Let us have a look at five historical monuments in India that you may visit to commemorate World Heritage Day:

Red Fort, New Delhi

Red Fort, New Delhi

The Red Fort is located in the heart of Delhi. It has also been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This iconic historic landmark is a must-see location to visit if you enjoy learning about history and culture. Its walls are made of red sandstone and were completed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in 1648. It now houses a variety of museums. On Independence Day, when the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag at the Red Fort, it is the greatest time to visit. 

 

Ticket Price: For Indians, the entry fee is Rs 90 (per person). Whereas non-Indians (foreigners) will have to pay Rs 950 (per person) as an entry fee. The monument is closed every Monday. Timings are between sunrise to sunset. For Sound & Light Shows, adults have to pay Rs 80 whereas, for children, it is Rs 30. The timing for the show is from 6 pm onwards in English and Hindi.

The Golden Temple, also known as the Harmandir Sahib, is the holiest temple and pilgrimage site in Amritsar. This is Punjab's most renowned and revered Sikh Gurdwara, with a rich history and a gold-gilded facade. 

 

Ticket Price: The entrance fee to the Golden Temple is zero. The temple is open for visitors on all days of the week. Timings are between 05:00 AM to 10:00 PM.

Qutub Minar, New Delhi

Qutub Minar, known as India's second tallest Minar, is located in the capital city of New Delhi. This magnificent structure, which stands at 72.5 metres and has roughly 379 staircases, exhibits India's diverse architecture. It is built of red sandstone and embellished with Arabic and Brahmi inscriptions. This minar has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

 

Ticket Price: For Indians, the entry fee is Rs 40 (per person). Whereas non-Indians (foreigners) will have to pay Rs 600 (per person) as an entry fee. The monument is open for visitors on all days of the week.

Ticket Price: For Indians, the Taj Mahal entry fee is Rs 50 (per person). Whereas non-Indians (foreigners) pay Rs 1100 (per person). But every Friday, the monument is closed. Also, children under the age of 15 pay no entry price (both Indians & foreigners).
