Indian Railways night rules: The Indian Railways is one of the busiest networks in the world and millions of people use it to travel from one place to another on a daily basis. A considerable amount of passengers travel through the night and the Indian Railways provide several facilities to ensure comfort during the journey. In order to ensure the comfort of travellers, authorities also enforce certain rules. Recently, the Indian Railways updated the night rules in an effort to make sure that passengers have a peaceful sleep. These rules are applicable in all trains including Vande Bharat, Rajdhani and others.
Here are certain rules that travellers must know while travelling during the night:
- Except for the night light, no lights are allowed to be used.
- Passengers are not allowed to interact aloud after 10 pm

- Online food services cannot serve food on the train after 10 pm. However, you can pre-order your meal or breakfast on the train even at night with e-catering services
- After 10 pm, TTE can’t check the ticket of the passenger
Indian Railways Luggage Rule
Passengers travelling in an AC coach can carry a maximum of 70 kg of luggage. In the sleeper class 40 kg and in the second class 35 kg luggage is free. With extra luggage charges in the AC class, passengers will be allowed to carry 150 Kg, in a sleeper 80kg, and a second sitting 70 kg bag and baggage.
If any person is found to be not complying with these rules, authorities can take appropriate actions in terms of fines. In case of any discomfort because of fellow passengers, a person can seek help from TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner).
The Indian Railways also urge passengers to use RailMitra to know things about the train schedule, PNR status and live train running status. They can even order food and register complaints using the AI-enabled app.
