Employee Metrics: Infosys expands college graduate hiring program to 45,000 for this year; Wipro to add 25,000 in next FY

While the former will be expanding its college graduates hiring program to 45,000 for the year, the latter will add over 25,000 graduates in the next financial year.

“In order to harness the full potential of the market opportunity, we are expanding our college graduates hiring program to 45,000 for the year,” Pravin Rao, Chief Operating Officer at Infosys has said. The second-largest Indian IT company announced its July-September quarterly earnings results on Wednesday, beating the street’s estimates.

On the other hand, Wipro Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) Thierry Delaporte said during his press conference on Wednesday: “We are well positioned to add over 25,000-fresh graduated in the next financial year.” The third-largest Indian IT company also announced its Q2FY22 results yesterday.

Wipro onboarded 8,150 freshers in Q2FY22, the company said in its filing to exchanges.

The CEO and MD acknowledged the growing attrition rate problem, which he said was impacting its customers, too.

IT bellwether Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) added 19,690 employees on a net basis in Q2FY22, taking the total employee base to 528,748 as of September 30, the company said in its exchange filing.

The workforce comprises of 157 nationalities with women making up 36.2 per cent of the base.

The IT Services attrition rate over the Last Twelve Months (LTM) was at 11.9 per cent , the lowest in the industry, it claims.

The company added 43,000 fresh graduates in the last six months, it said.

“By focusing on organic talent development and by linking learning with careers, we have kept employee satisfaction levels high. At the same time, we continue to scale up programs like Contextual Masters and Elevate to groom the G&T leaders for the workforce of tomorrow,” said Milind Lakkad, Chief HR Officer at TCS.

Infosys: The total employee count was 279,617, which was up 16.40 per cent on the Year-on-Year (YoY) basis while 4.35 per cent up on Quarter-on-Quarter (QoQ) basis. Employee count as on 30 September 2020 was 240,208.

Voluntary Attrition for IT services on the LTM basis stood at 20.1 per cent as on 30 September 2021 versus 12.8 per cent as on 30 September 2020.

Women as percentage of total work force stood at 39.1 per cent for the reporting quarter versus 37.9 per cent for Q2FY21.

Wipro: The closing employee count for Q2FY22 was 221,365 versus 185243 in Q2FY21, up 19.4 per cent. In Q1FY22, it was at 209,890.

Meanwhile, attrition on Trailing Twelve Month (TTM) basis was 20.5 per cent for the reporting quarter versus 11 per cent for the corresponding period in FY21.
