BSE Sensex hits 59,000 mark in intraday trade for first time; IndusInd Bank, ITC lead the rally

The celebrations in the stock markets refuse to die down as the BSE Sensex hit the 59,000-mark for the first time ever. The 30-share index scaled levels of 59,010.54 on the intraday basis on Thursday. At 12:37 pm, BSE Sensex was trading at 58,977.10, up by almost 254 points or 0.4 per cent after the markets today opened positively

The celebrations in the stock markets refuse to die down as the BSE Sensex hit the 59,000-mark for the first time ever. The 30-share index scaled levels of 59,010.54 on the intraday basis on Thursday. At 12:37 pm, BSE Sensex was trading at 58,977.10, up by almost 254 points or 0.4 per cent after the markets today opened positively.  

Sensex opened at 58,881.04 after closing at 58,723.20 on Wednesday.

Out of the 30 stocks, 15 stocks were trading in the green around this time, while the remaining 15 were in the red.  

The rally was led by IndusInd Bank, which was the biggest gainer around this time. The other top gainer was ITC, SBI, Reliance Industries and Power Grid.  

IndusInd Bank shares were up by over 8 per cent while ITC shares were up 6.8 per cent from the last closing price on Wednesday.  

However, top five losers on the BSE Sensex around this time include TCS, Tech Mahindra, Tata Steel, Ultratech Cement and HCL Technologies.  

In terms of the volume toppers, IndusInd Bank and Bharti Airtel led the back followed by ITC and Reliance Industries.  

The state-run SBI was also fifth largest contributor in terms of volumes traded.  

The biggest index contributor was Reliance Industries, ITC and SBI.  

The biggest laggards on the Sensex on Thursday on the intraday basis were Infosys, TCS and Bajaj Finance. 

The BSE Sensex’s 52 week low is 36495.98 which the index hit on24 September 2020.
