Anil Singhvi, Managing Editor at Zee Business on Wednesday informed that Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued a draft rule according to which the government is planning to bring infant nutrition and food under Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification.

Now, BIS certification will be necessary for producing and selling the products related to child nutrition and food supplement, the Market Expert said. Companies certified with BIS will now be only able to make such products, he added.

He said that companies who are already using BIS like Nestle India Limited, Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) will be benefited with this update as they are involved in the business of making food supplements for children.

Government has made it compulsory for the companies to produce and sell products related to infant nutrition by following FSSAI rules and will also have to get BIS approval.

 

Speaking on the same Anurag Shah, Special Correspondent at Zee Business said government is going to make changes in the rules of Food Safety Standard Authority's regulation for restricted items of 2011.

He informed that a draft notification has been issued regarding the same and it has been clearly mentioned there that products related to infant nutrition containing BIS certification will only be sold.

Manufacturing, storage, sales, marketing , etc. of such products cannot be done by any company till it gets BIS certified. The government has also asked for suggestions from the people for the restricted items regulations of 2011, Anurag said.

He said that products related to infant nutrition has been added in the list of restricted items. Suggestions have been asked but before that only it has been cleared in the draft rules.

Nestle was trading at Rs 20,185.15, down by 183.30 point sor 0.90 percent at 11:44 am on NSE. While, shares of HUL were trading at Rs 2,784.60, up by 6.90 points or 0.25 percent on NSE.
