Stocks in News Today, January 13: Stock markets are likely to start in green on Friday as SGX Nifty - an early indicator of sentiment on the NSE Nifty50 - was up by 62 points to trade at 17,980. Benchmark stock indices had declined for a third straight day on Thursday as investors turned cautious ahead of the release of key inflation and industrial production data.

Overnight on the Wall Street, stocks closed slightly higher on Thursday as data showing a fall in consumer prices in December bolstered expectations of less aggressive interest rate hikes from the Federal Reserve. The S&P 500 gained 13.26 points to end at 3,982.87, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 69.12 points to 11,002.31. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 217.33 points to 34,189.31.

Paytm: China's Alibaba Group (9988.HK) sold a 3.1 per cent stake in Indian digital payments firm Paytm for a total of $125 million through a block deal on Thursday. Shares of the company fell as much as 8.8 per cent to 528 rupees in afternoon trading and was last down 5.8 per cent as of 3:00 pm IST.
