Both headline indices finish the day with losses of about half a per cent. The Sensex sheds 377.5 points to end at 69,551 and the Nifty50 gives up 90.7 points to 20,906.4, as the bulls lose control of Dalal Street to the bears after a two-day gap.

Domestic equities extend their surge to reach yet another milestone, with the Nifty50 benchmark crossing the existing peak of 21,026 to a fresh all-time high on Tuesday, December 12.
The 50-scrip blue-chip index registers a fresh lifetime high of 21,037.9, taking its total year-to-date gains to more than 16 per cent. The Sensex also gains marginally to touch 70,033.6 on the upside, coming within inches of a record high of 70,057.8 logged the previous day.
Analysts attribute the positive sentiment on Dalal Street to a combination of factors, including buoyancy in world markets, steady FII inflows, favourable crude oil prices, and hopes of an earlier-than-expected reversal of the recent tightening of monetary policy. Read more

Leading Indian health insurance firms Star Health Insurance and ICICI Lombard are trading higher on BSE on Tuesday (December 12, 2023) after the government sources told Zee Business that the government might increase PMJAY insurance cover in the budget. Star Health Insurance is trading higher by 1.12 per cent, or Rs 6.20, at Rs 557.60, while the shares of ICICI Lombard are up by 0.84 per cent, or Rs 12.10, at Rs 1,458 each on Tuesday. Read more

Shares of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) shares soar on Tuesday after the company’s joint venture with URC emerged the lowest bidder for an order worth Rs 543 crore from Madhya Pradesh Metro Railway Corporation. The order involves the designing of parts and the construction of five elevated metro stations. The railways PSU’s stock gains as much as four per cent to Rs 185.6 during the session on NSE, coming within Rs 14 of a record high registered in September.
"It is hereby informed that “M/s RVNL-URC JV emerges as the Lowest Bidder (L1) for “Part Design and Construction of Elevated Viaduct, Five (5) Elevated Metro Rail Stations (viz. Shaheed Bagh, Khajrana Chauraha, Bengali Chauraha, Patrakar Colony & Palasia Chauraha) and Ramp between Chainages 31+755 to 34+898.061 & 3+669.547 to 5+862 for Indore Metro Rail Project,” the company informed the exchanges post market hours on Monday.
