Share Market Today | Broader indices eke out gains, off day's highs
Broader gauges Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 finish 0.2 per cent and 0.4 per cent higher, respectively, after rising around one per cent each during the course of the day.
The Nifty 500, the broadest index on the bourse, ends 0.2 per cent higher for the day, having gained as much as 0.9 per cent in intraday trade.

Closing Bell | Sensex up 31 pts, gives up much of day's gain; Nifty five pts shy of 21,550
Both headline indices finish the day barely in the green, having lost much of their intraday gains in the final hour of the session.
The Sensex ends 31 points higher at 71,386.2 and the Nifty50 settles at 21,544.9, up 31.9 points from its previous close, after jumping as much as 680.3 points and 211.5 points—one per cent each—during the course of the day, respectively.

Oil India shares inch higher on Tuesday, January 9, after the state-run oil exploration and production firm signed a joint venture agreement with Assam Power Generation Corporation (APGCL) to work together in the renewable energy space. Being highly optimistic on the prospects of ER&D, or Engineering, Research, and Development, domestic brokerage JM Financial has initiated coverage on Tata Technologies with a target price of Rs 1,360. This implies a potential gain of over 16 per cent from the last closing price of Rs 1,170.9.
The brokerage opines that Tata Technologies is a play on electrification. The brokerage estimates that the company could exploit the huge potential the industry offers, as the electric action theme could drive $35 billion of incremental outsourced auto ER&D spend over 2023–27E.
