7th Pay Commission: Important meeting on Monday; big announcement likely, government employees confident of getting demands fulfilled

7th pay commission: The Uttar Pradesh government and the state government employees have already come to a consensus regarding the payment of allowances, salary discrepancies and cashless treatment in the hospitals.

However, despite this, even after a month, there is considerable disappointment engendered in the staff members as no action has been taken upon the same. Keeping that in mind and to put additional pressure on the government, a meeting has been set between the employees of the organization's Public Service Employees Federation of India and the Chief Secretary of the state to resolve the matter.

Now, it is believed that a big announcement will follow this meeting.

Meeting over grievances

Public Service Employees Federation of India President, VP Mishra, said that there are about 22 lakh government employees in the state. Post the agitation led by the employees, government had considered fulfilling their demands regarding the allowances under the 7th Pay Commission, removing salary inconsistencies and providing cashless treatment facilities to the government personnel in hospitals.

On the basis of this the Secretary had called for a meeting on Saturday, but due to some reasons, negotiations did not happen thereafter. However, probability is high of an order being given to resolve the matter on Monday, and in case there is an adverse outcome, the employees have threatened to go on strike again.

Agitation will start in respect to the old pension scheme

While the demand for a hike in the basic pay under the 7th pay commission is the main one, simultaneously, the demand for restoration of old pension system (OPS) of government employees is catching momentum and that too across the country. Demand for OPS is increasing in many other states including Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.

Delhi government has reassured the employees it will implement the OPS as a result of which the other employees hopes have risen. The employees' leaders say that they will work towards the old pension system before the Lok Sabha elections in 2019.

According to SP Tiwari, president of the Joint Struggle Steering Committee (S4) of UP, between December 21, 2018, and January 21, 2019, lakhs of UP workers will strive for the OPS. They are planning to put forth their demand in front of PM Modi's, "Mann Ki Baat".

Even after that if the OPS isn't implemented, they will court arrest themselves. A teacher will also be a part of this protest along with the government employee.
