Let's first delve into the details of how to change the Aadhaar address online:
Step 1: Search and log in to My Aadhaar portal online or click here.
Step 2: Select the option ‘Name/Gender/Date of Birth & Address Update’

Step 3: Click on ‘Update Aadhaar Online’
Step 4: In the online form, select the option of ‘address’ from the list of demographic fields to be updated and press ‘Proceed to Update Aadhaar’
Step 5: Enter the required demographic information and upload a scanned copy of the original supporting document.
Step 6: Pay the non-refundable fees of Rs.50
Step 7: A Service Request Number (SRN) will be generated. Save it for tracking status later.
Step 8: On completion of the internal quality check, you will receive an SMS.

Reasons for non-acceptance of address updation:
According to the official website, Aadhaar update requests should be supported by valid/proper documents. In case the valid document in the name of the applicant is not submitted along with the request, the same shall be rejected. Ensure to follow the below-mentioned things before you submit a new update request.
1. The document should be valid.
2. The document is in the name of the resident for whom the update request is submitted.
3. The address details entered should match the address mentioned in the document.
4. The image uploaded should be a clear and coloured scan of the original document.
5. Make sure one's biometrics details are not older than 10 years.
Documents acceptable to change Aadhaar address:
28 documents are accepted, some of the popular proofs of address (POA) are:
-Passport (of self/spouse/parents in case of a minor)
-Bank statement (Passbook, Post Office Account Statement)
-Ration card
-Voter ID
-Driving License
-Pensioner Card
-Disability Card
-CGHS/ECHS/ESIC/Medi-Claim Card with Photo issued by State/Central Govt/PSUs
-Electricity Bills (not older than three months), including prepaid receipts
-Water Bill (not older than three months)
-Telephone Landline Bill/ Phone (Postpaid Mobile) Bill/ Broadband Bill (not older than three months)
-Insurance Policy (Life & Medical only)
-Property Tax Receipt (not older than one year)
Note: These documents should have the person's name who is applying for the address change.
What to do if your Aadhar address update application gets rejected?
First, make sure one has updated the biometrics after the age of 18 or within 10 years of making the Aadhaar card. If yes, try applying with an individual document like a passport, ration card, or bank statement (passbook, post office account statement).
A simple method can be getting one's address updated on the passbook by visiting their bank with all the necessary documents and then applying with the new address on the passbook. One can also use their passport if that has the updated address.
Another method is filling out the following form https://www.tndsc.co.in/downloads/2.pdf and getting it approved by any of the following:
-MP/ MLA/ MLC/ Municipal Councillor.
-Gazetted Officer, EPFO Officer.
-Tehsildar/ Gazetted Officer.
-Gazetted Officer at NACO/ State Health Department/ ‘Project Director of the State Aids Control Society or his nominee’.
-Superintendent/ Warden/ Matron/ Head of Institution of recognized shelter homes or orphanages (for children of concerned shelter home or orphanage only).
-Recognised Educational Institution signed by the Head of Institute (for the concerned Institute students only), Panchayat Head/ President or Mukhiya/ Gaon Bura/ equivalent authority (for rural areas)/ Village Panchayat Secretary/ VRO or equivalent (for rural areas).
Using the approved form as a document proof one can get the address changed online.
