Delhi Electricity Subsidy: Months after the Delhi government announced that power consumers in the national capital will be given an option to opt-out of the electricity subsidy scheme, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said that Delhiites can avail of the scheme only if they opt for it. This means, the option to get the Delhi government's power subsidy will no longer be available by default. Kejriwal, while holding his first offline press conference since the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi in February 2020, said that several people had expressed willingness to pay their electricity bills in full.

Delhi Electricity Subsidy: Key things to keep in mind

- Those who want to apply can do so from today onwards. The subsidy will continue from October 1 if a consumer applies before the end of this month.

- Those consumers who will apply till October 31 will get the power subsidy for the month.

- Those who do not do so will have to pay their bills. However, consumers can apply next month to get the subsidy.

- Delhi government spends around Rs 3,000 crore as a subsidy under the scheme.

How to apply for power subsidy online?

Step 1: Add 7011311111 on WhatsApp.

Step 2: Give a missed call on 7011311111 from your registered mobile number or simply send 'Hi'.

Step 3: You will receive an opt-in form on WhatsApp asking you to provide your CA Number.

Step 4: A form with your name, address and CA Number will be delivered on WhatsApp. You will be asked to confirm the details.

Step 5: You will receive a confirmation stating that your form has been successfully accepted for subsidy.

How to apply for power subsidy offline?

In the physical method, consumers will have to fill up a form attached to their power bill. They will then have to submit it at designated collection centres and the subsidy will continue from October 1.
