7th Pay Commission: These decisions please central government employees ahead of general elections
7th Pay Commission: Prior to the Lok Sabha elections this year, the Centre has sought to meet the various demands of central government employees. So, whether it is Indian Railways staff or others, their pay has been enhanced one way or the other. For instance, Indian Railways has increased its employees running allowances, which was a long standing demand. The government also pleased central government employees handling cash and treasury with a 300 per cent hike, besides subsuming cash handling and treasury allowances in ‘Cash Handling and Treasury Allowance’. Both the decisions have been taken by the Modi government, as per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, and these steps will add to the salary hike demand of these employees. 7th Pay Commission: Over 300% allowance hike
Under the 7th Pay Commission, the Narendra Modi government recently approved 300 per cent hike in the allowance for the central government employees handling cash and treasury. They will now get allowance between Rs 700 and Rs 1,000 for handling a different amount of cash. The central government has been paying allowance between Rs 230 and Rs 900 for the handling of different amount of cash. (IANS)
7th Pay Commission: Rs 700 allowance for cash up to Rs 5 lakh
7th Pay Commission: According to earlier norms, employees used to get Rs 230 allowance for handling cash up to Rs 50,000; Rs 450 for cash up to Rs 2 lakh; Rs 600 for handling the cash up to Rs 5 lakh; Rs 750 for cash up to Rs 10 lakh; and Rs 900 for cash over Rs 10 lakh. The government has now subsumed these categories into two i.e, Rs 700 for handling cash up to Rs 5 lakh, and Rs 1,000 for managing cash over Rs 5 lakh. (IANS)

7th Pay Commission: According to the Ministry of Personnel, the powers to grant cash handling and treasury allowance remain delegated to the ministries and head of departments who may appoint officials holding substantive posts up to level 7 of Pay Matrix to perform duties of cashiers. (Reuters)
7th Pay Commission: Over 200% hike in running allowances
7th Pay Commission: In another decision, Board of Indian Railways has approved over 200 per cent hike in the running allowance for its employees, who will now get a raise of about Rs 12,000-25,000 in their monthly salaries. Now, the guards, loco pilots and assistant loco pilots will get running allowance of Rs 520 for every 100km which was earlier Rs 255. The announcement to double the running allowance was in fact made in June 2018. Further, Railways employees are also expected to get their pending arrears worth over Rs 4,500 crore for the period between July 2017 to December 2018. (Reuters)
7th Pay Commission: Big announcement in Budget?
7th Pay Commission: Since Union Budget 2019 will be presented on February 1, it is being suggested that the government would make big announcements for the benefit of the central employees, who have been demanding hike in the minimum pay to Rs 26,000, while the 7th Pay Commission has recommended increasing the minimum pay to Rs 18,000 a month. 7th Pay Commission: New pay scale for academic staffs
7th Pay Commission: Earlier, on January 15, the government also gave its nod to extend benefits of the 7th Pay Commission to teachers and other academic staff of the state government and government-aided technical institutions in the country. The academic staffs will get a new pay scale under 7th CPC. The move is likely to benefit lakhs of academic staff members would cost the Centre Rs 1,241.78 crore. (ANI)
