Flipkart and others to be blacklisted from IITs?

All-IIT Placement Committee (AIPC), which includes the placement heads of 16 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), met on Friday in Mumbai to discuss the fate of companies like Flipkart that hired students but later reneged or delayed their promises, media reports said.

According to a TOI report, the placement heads have decided to 'blacklist' the companies that rolled back their offers entirely after participating in the placements.

Startups like Zimply, Portea (heathcare startup), PepperTap (Online grocery portal) that cancelled the offers entirely will not be eligible to participate in the placements this year, it said.

This is a big jolt to not only the companies but to students who have been increasingly looking forward to joining the hot start-up space in India.

The IITs have decided to write to these companies and give them a week's time to file replies. If the company fails to compensate or offer the same pay as committed earlier will be blacklisted from participating in 2017 placements, the report said.

E-commerce major, Flipkart was one of the start up companies which has delayed joining of fresh recruits from these colleges. The original date of joining was in June but now Flipkart told them to join in December. The company has offered Rs 1.5 lakh as an additional joining bonus to all campus recruits to ease their "financial burden" in case they are to pay back loans.

The committee has also discussed to let a student accept more than one offer as a backup option in case the company rolled back the offer, said a Mint report.

Apart from Flipkart, startups like CarDekho and HopScoth deferred the joining dates by six months. Zimply Home Shopping, Click Labs and PepperTap are the ones that has withdrew the job offers, said the repor
