In fact, hours after Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted about a WhatsApp alternative, a huge surge in that app was seen. That WhatsApp alternative was none other than Signal. Musk posted from official Twitter handle: "Verification codes are currently delayed across several providers because so many new people are trying to join Signal right now (we can barely register our excitement). We are working with carriers to resolve this as quickly as possible. Hang in there."
"Everyone should be able to register without delay again. Thanks to all of the carriers who flipped the right switches so that people can keep switching," they further added.
Also, another messaging app Telegram is also trending on the social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook after the new update from WhatsApp.
"WhatsApp decided to keep monitoring our Data, personal stuff. We should step forward and try using telegram, because anytime they can sell it, it includes all like, credit card details, and battery percentage also, Damn!. #WhatsappNewPolicy," a twitter user said.
A Twitter user (@AvaneeshKSingh) wrote from his account: "I already use #Telegram but can't simply leave WhatsApp because most of my circle is there and it is hard to educate everyone to use and adapt to a new app."
"One of biggest revolutions in the history is happening. Probably significant number of #whatsapp users are coming to #Telegram for some privacy policy updates," another Twitter user wrote.
The updated WhatsApp policy statement says, "WhatsApp must receive or collect some information to operate, provide, improve, understand, customise, support, and market our Services, including when you install, access, or use our Services."
Meanwhile, in an attempt to allow cross-messaging among its family of apps, Facebook has reportedly started merging Instagram and Messenger chats. The social network has already integrated Messenger rooms with WhatsApp on the Web.
"For example, allowing you to connect your Facebook Pay account to pay for things on WhatsApp or enabling you to chat with your friends on other Facebook Company Products, such as Portal, by connecting your WhatsApp account," the new policy explained.
