All the smartphones in the OnePlus 8 series will be 5G ready, company CEO Pete Lau has confirmed. In a recent interview with CNET, the OnePlus chief stated "Going forward, we're all in on 5G." While this calls for celebrations, Lau has also confirmed that prices of smartphones will go up. Introducing 5G to the OnePlus 8 series will increase the prices of each device compared to their current-generation equivalents.
“I want to restate our commitment to 5G and our long term investment. We've been investing in 5G for several years and we see this as the direction going forward, and one we're very much committed to,” Lau was quoted as saying.
Lau said that OnePlus wants to take advantage of the rapid growth in 5G coverage that is being made at the moment.

Last year, during the launch of OnePlus 7T series, Lau had said that the company was looking at the suitability of a 5G smartphone in various countries where it is present, and would plan its device features accordingly.
“Speaking about 5G development in different countries, things are at various stages. In India, for example, there may not be 5G availability next year. So again, this has to go back to looking at suitability for products in different regions,” said Lau.
Even though the country is yet to get 5G connectivity, several brands have started offering devices that support the tech. Realme and iQOO have already launched their 5G ready smartphones last month in India while Xiaomi is expected to do the same in the coming weeks. Notably, Samsung decided to launch only 4G variants of its S20 series.
