Let's take a ride back in time to check some major changes that Elon Musk brought to Twitter.
Major changes in Twitter under Elon Musk's leadership:
1. Twitter 2.0
Soon after he took over as the Twitter CEO, Elon Musk announced his plans for what he called 'Twitter 2.0 The Everything App' as a part of which he vowed to take Twitter to compete with other established social media apps.
2. Paid subscription
One of the major changes that Musk brought to Twitter was adding the 'paid subscription' option for the blue tick. Re-launching Twitter Blue, he announced that users will have to pay a specific fee for receiving the coveted blue check mark, among other features.
3. Two-factor authentication
In February this year, Musk brought another change by announcing that Twitter would charge its users to use two-factor authentication (2FA) to secure their accounts via text message.
4. Commission on content subscription
In April, Musk announced that Twitter will be charging a 10 per cent cut on content subscriptions after the first year. This was a revenue generation strategy after Twitter changed its content policy to allow users to offer content subscriptions for their followers.
5. Reinstating the banned accounts
In one of its bold and shocking moves that faced immense backlash on social media, Musk reinstated the profiles of some banned accounts, previously suspended on the grounds of inciting violence and hatred, and promoting inappropriate content on Twitter. The accounts restored included former US President Donald Trump, rapper Kanye West, author Jordan Peterson, and comedian Kathy Griffin, among others.
6. Limited reading tweets
Earlier this month, Musk announced a temporary limit on reading tweets for both verified and unverified users. While non-verified ones can read only up to 600 tweets per day, verified accounts can read up to 6,000 tweets per day.
8. Twitter rebranding
Having already announced X Corporation as Twitter's parent company, Musk on Sunday announced the website 'X.com', redirecting the domain to Twitter.com. With this, he also mentioned changing the iconic blue bird logo with the letter 'X'. As a part of his rebuilding plans to make Twitter a 'Super App', while the logo is expected to go live on Monday, the platform's default colour may also change to black.
