The January 2022 security update is now available for Windows 11 and all supported versions of Windows 10

The US-based tech giant Microsoft released an out-of-band (OOB) update to fix some Windows issues caused by last week’s monthly patching cycle on Patch Tuesday. The Windows Update took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to announce the OOB update.

"An out-of-band update has been released to address issues related to VPN connectivity, Windows Server Domain Controllers restarting, Virtual Machine start failures, and ReFS-formatted removable media failing," Windows Update wrote on Twitter.

The January 2022 updates that shipped last week included security patches and a fix for Japanese text appearance issues in Windows 11 (KB5009566) and Windows 10 (KB5009543) — along with a secret payload of issues, including unexpected restarting of Domain Controllers and VPN connections using L2TP failing.

"Microsoft is releasing Out-of-band (OOB) updates today, January 17, 2022, for some versions of Windows. This update addresses issues related to VPN connectivity, Windows Server Domain Controllers restarting, Virtual Machines start failures, and ReFS-formatted removable media failing to mount," Microsoft wrote.

"All updates are available on the Microsoft Update Catalog, and some are also available on Windows Update as an optional update. Check the release notes for your version of Windows for more information,"  the company wrote in a post.

"The January 2022 security update is now available for Windows 11 and all supported versions of Windows 10. We recommend that you install these updates promptly. For more information about the contents of this update, see the release notes, which are easily accessible from the Windows 11 and Windows 10 update history pages," the company further added
