Paytm users alert! App won't work if you have these apps on your smartphone

In a major step towards offering a more secure experience to its customers, Paytm has blocked its users from using the platform if they have apps like TeamViewer and AnyDesk on their smartphones. Several users got a pop-up message, asking them to uninstall these apps before they could start using Paytm. Users took to micro-blogging platform Twitter to share screenshots of the message that they received from Paytm.

In response to one of the tweets, Paytm clarified that the new security feature has been designed to prevent fraud by not letting fraudsters use these apps.

"Hi! It is the security feature designed to prevent the frauds. This feature help prevent fraud by not letting fraudsters using these apps. We request you to kindly use your work profile in order to use these apps," the first tweet from Paytm read. In another tweet that followed this, Paytm asked users to use their work profile in order to continue using the service.

The work profile allows users to use their device without any work interruptions at the weekend or when you’re on vacation.With your work profile turned on, work and personal apps run side by side. When you turn it off, work apps don’t run, generate notifications, or consume data or the battery.

AnyDesk found itself in the middle of a big controversy when the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had alerted banks about potential fraudulent transactions on the unified payments interface (UPI) platform. In a notice, RBI said that a mobile app named "AnyDesk" was being allegedly used to target the mobile phones of customers. The alert was issued by the RBI's cybersecurity and IT examination cell.

However, company's COO Oldrich Muller had dismissed these claims by saying that there is nothing wrong with the app. In an exclusive interview with Zee Business Online, Muller said that fraudsters were able to use the app only because users granted them access to their device.

"It had been brought to the RBI’s attention that fraudsters were using remote desktop applications, such as (but not limited to) AnyDesk, to take remote access of a user’s mobile device and carry out transactions. Such fraud is only possible if the user grants someone access to their device and any such transactions are not due to an issue with AnyDesk’s application," he had said.
