Twitter shuts two of three offices in India; tells staff to work from home

Twitter, which recently fired more than 90 per cent of its staff in India, has shut two out of three offices in the country, Zee Business channel reported on Friday quoting a Bloomberg report.

The company had around 200 employees in India. After the recent layoff, it was reportedly left with just about a dozen staff.

According to the report, Twitter has asked the remaining staff to work from home. The move is part of Elon Musk's decision to cut costs and get the microblogging site in the black.

The two offices that have been closed were in the national capital and the financial hub of Mumbai. Now, the company has only one office in India. It is in the southern tech hub of Bengaluru. According to reports, the office mostly houses engineers.

Not only in India, but Elon Musk has also fired staff and shut offices around the world ever since he took over as the chief executive officer of Twitter. According to Musk, the move is aimed at making Twitter financially stable by late 2023.

Meanwhile, Musk has said that he might step down as Twitter CEO by the end of this year, after stabilising the company and making it more financially viable.

After conducting a poll on stepping down as Twitter CEO in December last year, Musk has not offered any indication as to when he is going to appoint a new CEO to run the daily affairs at the micro-blogging platform.

"I need to stabilise the organisation and just make sure it's in a financially healthy place in that the product roadmap is clearly laid out," Musk said via video link at the World Government Summit in Dubai.

"I'm guessing probably towards the end of the year would be good timing to find someone else to run the company," he was quoted as saying in reports.

"I think it should be in a stable position around the end of this year," Musk added.

Musk has said that he does not want to be the CEO of any company, be it Tesla or Twitter.
