Air India has announced that it will reduce its last minute air fares to equal Rajdhani 2-tier AC trains on trunk routes. These fares came into effect on Sunday in a bid to lessen the losses the airline endures due to lesser seat occupancy.

The civil aviation policy by the Ministry of Civil Aviation on Wednesday stated that air tickets for tier 2 cities are capped at Rs 2,500 per ticket on one-hour long flights. Fares for 30-minute flights have been capped at Rs 1,500.

The Union Cabinet is likely to take up the much-awaited Civil Aviation Policy at its meeting tomorrow, which may unveil a slew of passenger-friendly measures including capping of airfares at Rs 2,500 for an hour long flight.
