Of these 207 major dams, the Sardar Sarovar dam built over the Narmada river, which is considered the lifeline of the state, currently has 3.33 lakh million cubic feet (mcft) of water, which is 99.73 per cent of its total storage capacity, a release by the Gujarat government said.

Rainfall activity has been in a deficit in all the three months of the season, so far. In the past 20 years, there have been only two instances (2004 and 2009) when rainfall was consistently in deficit over the first three months of the season. Additionally, in both these years, rainfall remained in deficit in the month of September also.
