According to the proposal, EPFO pensioners and their life partners will be considered eligible for this scheme. EPFO subscribers will not have to pay a premium for the Ayushman scheme. Preparations are being made to provide coverage of Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance to all the subscribers in the EPFO board. This proposal can be approved by the end of this month.

He said that 29 states are on board with the scheme, with Maharashtra becoming the latest to come on board. Many states are already running their health insurance schemes like Aarogyasri in Andhra Pradesh, Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana in Jharkhand & Uttarakhand, Biju Krushak Kalyan Yojana in Odisha, and Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme in Kerala. Whether the states would continue to run these programmes, or adopt Ayushman Bharat, is not clear yet.
