Brent crude oil price news: Brent crude futures climbed 83 cents to $84.38 a barrel by 2341 GMT after hitting a session-high of $84.80. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude rose 78 cents to $78.79 a barrel.

The government may not rely only on cutting excise duty, which makes up for a fourth of the retail selling price, the official said but did not elaborate.
On Tuesday, Brent crude, the global benchmark, rose 54 cents to $79.76 a barrel by 1221 GMT. Last week, it topped $80 for the first time since November 2014.
So far, Brent crude has shoot up to near $79 per barrel. Retail prices have shot up to record highs, but Indian government has ruled out the possibility to ease excise duty. States too are reluctant to cut Value Added Tax. To add to the woes of consumers, the rupee has been hovering near 68-mark against US benchmark dollar index.

Such consistent rise crude oil is not a good sign for India, as nearly 86% of it’s import depends upon crude.
Brent crude futures on Monday were down 35 cents at $78.16 a barrel by 1214 GMT, having retreated from a session high of $79.19.
In Mumbai, petrol price is available at Rs 84.40 per litre and diesel price is Rs 72.21 per litre. Both are at record high.
It needs to be noted that, the OMCs have started hiking petrol prices from May 14 onward, for the first time since April 24 after the conclusion of the Karnataka election voting.
On Monday, petrol price was hiked in the range of 33 paisa to 34 paisa per litre, also now consumers will pay over Rs 74 per litre in Mumbai, Rs 79 per litre each in Chennai and Kolkata.
