Sushil Chandra, chairman, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said despite closing of I-T returns filing time period, a number of entities and individuals failed to file their tax returns, as required under the 'Operation Clean Money' (OCM) initiated by the government to check black money post demonetisation.
Demonetisation move which was announced on November 08, 2016, to majorly curb black money and terror finance - led Indian real estate sector with heavy cash shortages and in return hampered their earnings.

The government is working on launching the second phase of promoting digital payments from January, according to an official source.
"Demonetisation is not a one-stop solution to end corruption. It cannot be, but it did change the agenda. And that changed agenda is that we should go towards less-cash economy. Individual tax payers` number has increased, digital transactions have gone up and terror funding has squeezed," Jaitley said.
Before the country observes the one year anniversary of demonetisation on November 8 another case of fake notes being dispensed from an ATM has been noted.
