Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) announced an additional incentive of Rs 5.79 per litre (Excluding GST) for ethanol sourced from maize on Thursday. After this incentive hike, the cost of ethanol sourced from maize will rise from Rs 66.07 per litre to Rs 71.86 per litre.

The Centre said the country's maize output needs to be increased to 44-45 million tonnes in the next five years amid growing demand for the grain for ethanol production and poultry industry. Union agriculture secretary Manoj Ahuja, speaking at the 9th India Maize Summit organized by industry body FICCI here, also stressed on the need to cut down the losses in the entire value chain of maize in a systematic manner.

Ministry of Agriculture released its first advanced estimates of a record high Kharif foodgrain production which is estimated to be at 135.03 million tonnes (MT). The country’s foodgrain output will shoot up 9% with record production of rice and pulses as well.
