At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local currency opened at 82.71 and witnessed a high of 82.62 and a low of 82.81. It finally settled at 82.81 against the American currency, registering a rise of 7 paise over its previous close.
India and Britain launched negotiations for FTA in January with an aim to conclude talks by Diwali but the deadline was missed due to a lack of consensus on issues. The total trade between India and the UK stood at USD 17.5 billion in 2021-22.
The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, slipped 0.12 per cent to 111.85.

Indian rupee on Oct 19 plunged by 61 paise to dip below 83 mark for first time
Today the Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar and fell to a record level. The rupee fell to a record low of 83.02 per dollar, down from 82.36 in the previous session. The rupee has seen a fall of about 66 paise i.e. about 0.8% against the dollar.

HDFC-HDFC Bank merger: The shareholder meeting will be convened on November 25, 2022 for the purpose of considering and approving the Scheme of Amalgamation, HDFC said in a regulatory filing on Friday.
"India's foreign exchange reserves at USD 537.5 billion as on September 23, 2022, compare favourably with most peer economies. Two-thirds of the decline in reserves is due to valuation changes arising from an appreciating US dollar and higher US bond yields," Sitharaman said.
