In 2022, the central bank had raised interest rates to over 4.25% from near zero levels in its fight against stubbornly high inflation. Market participants expect Fed Chief Jerome Powell to raise the benchmark federal funds rate by 25 bps, to a target range of 4.50% to 4.75%.
