Counting on five seats

Counting for the five seats of Bihar's Legislative Council is underway, and some of the results have already been declared.

Today, results will be announced for five seats, including Gaya Graduate Constituency, Saran Graduate Constituency, Gaya Teachers Constituency, Kosi Teachers Constituency, and Saran Teachers Constituency.

A total of 48 candidates are in the fray for these five council seats.

Voter turnout

Ballot paper was used for the voting in the Bihar MLC elections. A total of 84.08 per cent voters came out to cast their votes.

The Gaya graduate constituency saw the lowest voter turnout of 51.04 per cent.

Saran teacher's constituency, on the other hand, received the highest voter turnout at 83.50 per cent.

For Koshi teacher's constituency, 83 per cent polling was registered.

The BJP had a tough time at the Koshi teacher elections, where JD (U) candidate Sanjeev Kumar Singh consolidated his political strength, winning the MLC election for the fourth successive time.

Prashant Kishore-backed candidate wins in Saran

Prashant Kishor is playing an influential role in the elections as Afaq Ahmed, a candidate backed by him, won the election, defeating late MLC Kedarnath Pandey's son and CPI candidate Pushkar Anand from Saran's teacher seat, reported media outlets.

Saran Graduate seat results: Virendra Narayan Yadav leads, Mahachandra Prasad trails

Mahagathbandhan candidate Virendra Narayan Yadav is leading by 1,571 votes from NDA candidate Mahachandra Prasad Singh after the fourth-round counting. There are nine candidates in the fray on the seat, but the main contest is between the BJP and the JD (U).
