The journey between Delhi and Dehradun will take less than three hours soon, thanks to a new expressway. Approved recently by Centre, the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is expected to cut the travel time from Delhi to Dehradun to just 2.5 hours. It will be an elevated expressway between Delhi and Dehradun.
The new expressway will shorten the distance between these two cities and bring it down to just 180 kilometres. As of now, the distance between the two cities is about 250 kilometres and takes more than five hours to cover the distance.
The new expressway was confirmed by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat who tweeted that it will also accelerate the tourism and economic development of the state.

"The elevated expressway between Delhi-Dehradun has received in-principle approval from the Government of India. SS Sandhu, Chairman of NHAI gave this information during the meeting. The distance of Delhi from this elevated expressway will be only 180 KM, this will accelerate the tourism and economic development of the state," Rawat tweeted.
The entire expressway will be elevated and will have access control with toll plazas at different locations.
"The expressway’s stretch that will pass through Ganeshpur, Mohand and Asrodi in Uttarakhand will cost around Rs 1,600 to Rs 2,000 crore. The work is already on along some parts of the express highway. A stretch of the express highway passes through forests of UP for which we need many clearances related to wildlife and forests," CK Sinha, the NHAI’s regional director in Dehradun was quoted saying by HT.
