Postpaid net revenue improved 3.6% YoY, but is still down 1.4% YoY due to no material tariff hike unlike in the prepaid segment. Prepaid net revenue grew 7.5% QoQ / 35.8% YoY and ARPU rose 7.1 QoQ / 34.3% YoY to Rs 90. 4G subscriber (sub) addition accelerated to 4.6% QoQ (net add: 29.5 mn) to 676mn on higher shipment of smartphones.

Telecom major Bharti Airtel has launched prepaid plans, the Rs 78 and the Rs 248 packs for users in India. The two new plans are essentially add-on data packs that users can get for extra data. The new plans also come with a free Wynk Premium Music subscription so that users can get access to a number of music genres.

CLSA reiterates their Buy recommendation on Bharti Airtel with target price of Rs 730. Bharti Airtel remains CLSA’s top pick in Telecom Sector. In 2020, despite Reliance Jio gaining market share to 37% (increase by 4ppt), Airtel gained 2ppt market share to 32% and its ARPU was up 27%. 35% growth in Airtel’s data subscribers and tariff hikes will lead to continued growth. CLSA forecast a consolidated EBITDA CAGR of 16% over FY21-23E and the stock is inexpensive at a 10% discount to its five-year average EV/EBITDA.

Bharti Airtel share price: HSBC raised EBITDA estimates by 1%-3.5% over FY21-23e and net profit by 30% for FY22e, driven by higher India ARPU estimates. HSBC raised Bharti Airtel target price as they incorporate higher ARPU estimates and roll forward valuation to Dec-2021e. At HSBC’s target price, the implied valuation for Bharti Airtel's India and South Asia business would be 11.7x FY22e EV/EBITDA and 10.4x FY23e EV/EBITDA, respectively.

The Nifty opened on a higher note in line with positive cues from global markets on December 16, 2020. It traded in the range of 30-40 points for the rest of the day, waiting for some triggers. The Nifty Auto, Metal and Realty indices ended in the green. Stocks like HINDALCO, BHARTIARTL, HDFC, DIVISLAB and ONGC were top gainers that rose by 2-3%, while stocks like ICICI BANK, INDUSINDBK, ULTRACEMCO, GAIL and NTPC were top losers that fell by 0.5-1%.
