Indian benchmark equity indices ran into profit booking today, though they recovered smartly from intraday lows. At close, the NSE Nifty was down 51 points or 0.4% at 13478. Volumes on the NSE were a bit lower than recent average. Among sectors, FMCG and Metals were the main gainers while Media, PSU Bank, Auto were the main losers. Stocks were mostly lower Today in Asia after weakness in technology companies’ shares led an overnight decline on Wall Street.

As a result the index steadily rose on December 7. The index has scaled above its daily upper Bollinger Band and is attempting to push the bands into an expansion phase. Once the bands start expansion, it will assist price action on the way up. On the higher side, the immediate hurdle zone is at 13380-13400. Overall, the index is expected to march towards 13700 in the short term. On the other hand, the support zone shifts higher to 13200-13250.

On option front, Maximum Put OI is at 12000 followed by 13000 strike while maximum Call OI is at 13000 followed by 13500 strike. Option data suggests a wider trading range in between 12500 to 13500 zones while an immediate trading range in between 12900 to 13250 zones. Bank Nifty opened positive but remained quite consolidative for most part of the day. However, it witnessed a minor profit booking towards the end but the index settled the day with gains of more than 200 points.

We need to closely monitor the price action near the high as it will decide the further course of action for the index. Failure to sustain near the high would push the index back into the consolidation mode. The near-term support for the Nifty is at 13000.

Industrial credit degrew (-1.7% YoY) for the first time in 3 years, and this trend was led by large industrial credit, which degrew 2.9% YoY. On a YTD basis, overall / large industrial credit de-grew 5.7/6.7%. Aided by disbursals under the MSME credit guarantee scheme, growth in credit to medium industries continued to accelerate, reaching 16.7%, even as MoM growth slowed from 11.9% in September to 2.4%. Within industrial credit, sectors such as gems and jewellery, glass and glassware and all engineering including electronics saw persistent YoY degrowth, together, these constitute 18.4% of industrial credit.
