US-based short seller Hindenburg Research alleged on Saturday that Sebi Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch and her husband had held stakes in obscure offshore funds used in Adani money siphoning. Madhabi Puri Buch and Dhaval Buch categorically rubbished the allegations in the Hindenburg report, describing them as "baseless" and "devoid of any truth". "Our life and finances are an open book. All disclosures as required have already been furnished to Sebi over the years... It is unfortunate that Hindenburg Research against whom SEBI has taken an Enforcement action and issued a show cause notice has chosen to attempt character assassination in response to the same," the husband-wife duo said in a statement.
Sebi is looking to set up two new institutions -- Performance Validation Agency and Data Benchmarking Institution -- to improve the quality of information provided to investors in the securities market.

During FY 2023-24, Sebi spent Rs 2.73 crore from its Investor Protection and Education Fund (IPEF), Rs 11.93 crore in FY23, Rs 6.81 crore in FY22, Rs 28.84 crore in FY21 and Rs 11.84 crore in FY20, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha.
On a day when Sebi Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch highlighted that households in the country are losing up to Rs 60,000 crore a year in the problematic F&O segment, the regulator proposed stricter norms for index derivatives. And how does the market regulator plan to achieve that? In a consultation paper floated on Tuesday, Sebi proposed a host of measures aimed at protecting small traders, including rationalisation of strike prices as well as weekly index products, intraday monitoring of position limits, removal of calendar spread benefit on expiry days, and higher near contract expiry margins.
Simultaneously, Sebi has approved the IPO draft papers of four companies. These companies are PN Gadgil Jewellers, KRN Heat Exchanger, Ecos India Mobility, and Premier Energies. The regulator has issued observation letters to these companies, which amounts to an approval.
The chatbot is presently enabled to answer questions relating to general information on the securities market, latest master circulars, grievance redressal process, etc.
